About Me

Who Am I? I am a business administration major at Illinois State University. I have become very interested in the field of business and how it is used in the industry today. The hit T.V. series the office is a show that I have studied and watched many times. I find it very interesting how a series can implemented business concepts, titles, and organizational skills in a comical manor. I have worked in the business sector for over u 7 years and will continue to do so. I enjoy watching different Netflix series and comparing them to others. Being 23 years old in the business field gives me the opportunity to learn and add new innovation to daily practices. Being in a young and developing stage has positioned me to make a difference in the future of the business industry. I relate heavily with the show The Office because I have worked in the sales segment of business before and believe it or not it is very comparable to the sales segment within the show. I will continue my education in the business field by pursing my master’s in business degree. I feel as though this will open me up to more strategic knowledge and advance my critical thinking skills. Besides of the love for business, I have a great love comedy and using comedy in a creative way. When I first began watching The Office, I was not immediately captured by its attempt at comedy. However, after watching a few more episodes, I was intrigued at the new released series.

Dunder Mifflin a Paper Company

The entire show of The Office stems its basis from Dunder Mifflin a paper company. In the show, Dunder Mifflin is a paper sales company competing against big box stores such as Staples and Office Depot. Dunder Mifflin was actually a fictional company that was created in means for the show. Interesting after the show aired, Dunder Mifflin became a real paper company in the United States with the help of NBC. In the show, the main focus of the company is the Scranton branch ran by the branch manager character Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell). During the fourth season (by an episode labeled "Dunder Mifflin Infinity"), it was said that the company was founded in 1949 by Robert Dunder and Robert Mifflin. The company did not start in the paper industry, however; it started with selling raw materials for the construction field. During the fifth season (by an episode labeled "Company Picnic") we find out that the co-founders met on a tour of Dartmouth College. Dunder Mifflin is heavily segmented on sales and developing new clients. This leads to a rather funny rivalry with two salesmen Jim Halpert (played by John Krasinski) and Dwight Schrute (played by Rainn Wilson). This starts an office war of “who is the better salesmen.” What makes this rivalry so humorous is that both characters begin to start office pranks on each other that does not end until the series was completely finished. Every department of Dunder Mifflin Scranton have a diverse group employee characteristics which each character grows within throughout the series.

The Jim and Pam Office Romance

The Jim and Pam office romance is an essential part of the show. Most relationships are commonly started now from a young age like during high school and college. The characters Jim Halpert (played by John Krasinski) and Pam Beasley (played by Jenna Fischer) started off as casual co-workers. Overtime, they become closer and closer as friends. Although Pam was engaged to a warehouse worker by the name of Roy Anderson (played by David Denman), Jim and Pam continued their flirtatious work relationship. Roy, Pam’s fiancĂ©; had some commitment issues. Pam and Roy were engaged for a few years. Clearly, Pam was upset and emotionally depressed that they did not just get married already. This was a big reason for Pam to turn her attention to Jim because he showed genuine interest in her. There was a point in the series where it looked as if Jim and Pam’s flirty relationship would come to an end. Jim ended up taking a promotion at another branch and began dating a new co-worker Karen Filippelli (played by Rashida Jones). This new relationship started off looking very healthy. Eventually, this new branch was closed, and Jim, Karen, and a few other employees rejoined the Scranton branch where Jim originally worked at. Being reunited with Pam again, Jim’s feelings resurfaced for Pam. Jim eventually told Karen about his feelings for Pam, resulting to an end of their relationship. Jim’s patience with Pam and her engagement was well worth it. After Pam called her engagement off, they began dating and later married with children.
